The following is not for users who are currently using JMARS version 3.0.0 or newer

Windows Firewall issues

Trouble with Java WebStart and Comodo Firewall

When trying to launch JMARS, Java WebStart may return the error "splash recv failed".

Solution: Add Java WebStart to the list of authorized applications in the Comodo Firewall.

Ubuntu Java Installation

Find out if you have the IcedTea JRE or the Oracle JRE by executing java -version

If you have IcedTea you should see something like: me@ubuntu:~$ java -version java version "1.7.0_07" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.3.2) (7u7-2.3.2a-0ubuntu0.12.04.1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode) If you have the Oracle JRE they should see something like: me@ubuntu:~$ java -version java version "1.7.0_09" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.5-b02, mixed mode)

If you have the IcedTea JRE, you should install the Oracle generic Linux JRE

To install it, run the following commands:

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer
