JMARS Tutorials
Video Tutorials: Video tutorials for JMARS
This link will bring you to a page of video tutorials to choose from.
Tutorial #1: Viewing THEMIS VIS Coverage
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, loading the Stamp Layer, identifying the VIS coverage of Olympus Mons' caldera and loading image data into the available stamps to check quality. The JMARS Public Release will be used for this tutorial, although the THEMIS Team Release is very similar and team members should be able to follow along.
Tutorial #2: Displaying the Main View in 3D
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of loading the 3D Layer, navigating around the 3D version of the Main View and using other layers in the 3D View. The JMARS THEMIS Team Release will be used for this tutorial since the 3D Layer is not currently available in the Public Release.
Tutorial #3: Finding THEMIS Observation Opportunities
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, navigating to Ceraunius Tholus using the Nomenclature Layer, using the Stamp Layer to find gaps in 18m VIS coverage of the summit, loading the Groundtrack Layer and identifying opportunities for taking observations to fill these coverage gaps. The JMARS Public Release will be used for this tutorial, although the THEMIS Team Release is very similar and team members should be able to follow along.
Tutorial #4: Submitting a THEMIS Region of Interest (ROI)
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, navigating to the northwest end of Ares Vallis using the Nomenclature Layer, using the Stamp Layer to determine 18m VIS coverage, loading the ROI Layer and entering an ROI to complete 18m VIS coverage of the region. The ROI Layer is only available in the THEMIS Team Release, which will be used for this tutorial.
Tutorial #5: Loading a Custom Map
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, navigating to Warrego Vallis using the Nomenclature Layer and loading a custom map into JMARS using the Advanced Maps Layer. The JMARS Public Release will be used for this tutorial, although the THEMIS Team Release is very similar and team members should be able to follow along.
Tutorial #6: Viewing TES Data in JMARS
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, navigating to the MER-B (Opportunity) landing site at Meridiani Planum, opening the TES Layer and using the TES Layer to view spectral data in JMARS. The TES Layer is currently only available in the THEMIS Team Release of JMARS, which will be used for this tutorial.
Tutorial #7: Using the Shape Layer
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, navigating to the MER-A (Spirit) landing site at Gusev Crater, opening the Shape Layer, creating Features (points, polygons and lines), editing the parameters of the Features and modifying the Features using Shape Layer scripts.
Tutorial #8: Shape Layer: Selecting a non-default column for circle radius
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, opening the Shape Layer and selecting a non-default column for the circle-radius.
Tutorial #9: Shape Layer: Selecting a non-default column for fill color
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, opening the Shape Layer and selecting a non-default column for the fill-color.
Tutorial #10: Shape Layer: Add a Map Sampling column
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, opening the Shape Layer and adding a new column that contains data obtained by sampling the particular map.
Tutorial #11: Shape Layer: Adding a new color column based on the values of the radius column
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, opening the Shape Layer and adding fields to select the values of one column from other column using a lookup table.
Tutorial #12: Shape Layer: Adding fields to compute area and center of a polygon
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk users through the process of opening JMARS, opening the Shape Layer and adding fields to view the area and center(latitude, longitude) under the polygon.
Tutorial #13: Shape Layer: Using Shape File Expressions
The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to use the Java Expression Library that is available in the Shape Layer.
MSIP Tutorial: Using JMARS for MSIP
The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how JMARS can be used to support the Mars Student Imaging Project.
